The Association of Biomedical Engineers and Technologist of Nigeria (NABET) was established as NIBE’s membership arm, in October 2009, when NIBE (Nigerian Institute for Biomedical Engineering) celebrated its 10th Anniversary, Abuja, Nigeria. NABET officially took off 2013, taking over NIBE’s functions of a professional institute and of a technical body. This means that NABET continues to organize the annual biomedical engineering and technology conferences and general meetings of the NIBE as well as continue to be the mouthpiece of all biomedical engineering and technology professionals in Nigeria.
NABET advocates interdisciplinary scientific and professional biomedical engineering and technology activities within Nigeria between the broad disciplines of biology, medicine and engineering in addition to allied subjects. In line with this, it defines biomedical engineering as a discipline that advances knowledge in engineering, biology and medicine and improves human health through cross-disciplinary activities that integrate the engineering sciences with the biomedical science and clinical practice .
The role of NABET in developing biomedical engineering and technology in Nigeria is mainly as a membership group to give its members a sense of belonging by becoming their mouth piece in biomedical engineering and technology professional practice in Nigeria.
